Live Rock

Live rock should have a variety of micro and macro algae covering it that helps with the biological filtration in your tank. Live rock sometimes comes with clams, feather dusters, worms, sponges and many other sw organisms that live within it. If you place coral into your tank for a few months it might show some algae growth but can't compare to the benefits and complexity of lr. Check out swf.com for a better description.

Well your rocks can be anything really. They can be live rocks or just regular rocks. The bacterias living in the lr, benefits the tank by denitrifying nitrites and ammonia. It's just a good thing to have. It helps your filtration and also a very interesting to watch at night. You just don't know what might come out of it at night :D .
