I have added a 3to4 inch base of sand in my 35 gal hex. Can I later add LS to it ?
live sand afterward ?

yes, but if you do it after the tank has established you should only add a bout 1/4 inch at a time and wait about 2 weeks to add more, because you could but some detrivores alive(basically and kill them)
and if you have fish or inverts in there, do it slowly as to not creat too much dust
