live sand over crushed coral?

Hi, my 90 gal tank is almost a year old now, and I was looking at a friends tank which had live sand instead of the crushed coral. I really liked the look of it. I want to have live sand on the bottom of mine. Can I just dump it over the existing crushed coral? Thanks.

You should really do a swap. If you do a search in this forum you should find some help their. I would go with about 4 inchs. lol

Ditto to jwt's post!
You can get carib sea aragonite sand as it is cheaper than live sand...rinse it in a bucket a few times and add live sand (straight from its bag) to it....try 25% live sand to save you some money if needed. For live sand, use Nature's Ocean brand.
