Live Sand

Hello, I have been doing my research about saltwater tanks and come to the conclusion that crused coral is a negative. If I use just regular sand with live rocks will this be good enough? What about bringing real sand back from a beach? How do you clean the sand?
I use a siphon/suction cleaner for my gravels but what about sand cleaning? Do you have to clean it when you do the 25% water changes?

i would not use beach sand...lots-o-bad critters. you can buy live sand, or, just use the cheap "dead" sand...i did and it will become live sand in time
