my live sand has red patches, any ideas.

it just might be some normal algea. try to up your flow or cut back on feeding if it starts getting out of control.

i have a 30gal with filter, a protein skimmer, and a maxi jet 400 do you think my flow is to low.

that doesnt look that bad is it getting worse. how long has the tank been up? where are you levels at?

its only been up about 2 1/2 months. levels look good,i did a water change yesterday, and yes used ro .

i still had alot of color on my sand when it was that new. you could try to mix up the sand bed your self or just get something like a conch or nass snails. i still dont think its anything to worry about.

that powerhead is only rated for 106 gph, that's not even 10x turnover, you need 15-30x. Try that first..

It could be the start of red slime. You might need to get some red slime remover.
