Live Sand

Some people get live sand and pay a lot of money, others get cheap sand at ***** and similar places.
Can I get sand from a local beach? Obviously I'd try to go deep into the ocean to get the sand since sand from the shore will definitely be contaminated. Do some people do this? If so, how would I go about curing it?
Trying to save as much as I can on things I can to spend on the other's I can't.

Not sure of the laws but you'd have to look into whether or not you'd need a harvesting/collecting license... and you'd have to go pretty far IMO.

Not in FL, but thx anyway... I'll check.
If I'm allowed to... would this sand be equal to the one bought in stores?

depends on where the sand is collected. Most "true" live sand (not bagged) is collected near reefs I believe which increases the diversity of life found in the sand. There are areas of the ocean with little to no life so it all depends.
