live sand

ok i have had my 55g tank up for about 7 months now and i have only been using crushed coral. is there something else i should be using in order to keep my tank running good. i would like to eventually put in coral so anything to keep the coral living is what i need, but i dont know what kind of sand to use with coral. any help would be great.

cc is bad only bc it can trap lots of detritus, causing high nitrate. most people will recommend live sand. if thats not possible, try getting a siphon-like device when changing water, and clean it there and there. u can also go the natural route by getting a few sand sifters, like a conch to keep the cc clean.

i agree with nycbob that cc is not good for your system and that live sand should be used.
