Is it ok to add live sand to a tank after the cycle or should I add something else

after the cycle - no. it will cause another cycle.
better off adding the dry version of the sand. just rinse it well with some distilled or ro/di water

Several folks on the board here have talked about adding sand to their existing system using a hose and funnel. This keeps the sand storm to a minimum and does not murk up the water too much.
And like nike said, use dry sand.

IMO this is a blanket statement that is not necessarily true. Factors that have to be considered are the age of the tank how we acquired the sand and how much if any organic die off is accruing in the sand

The tank is about 2 months old. I was going to use pvc to drop sand into tank so it does not go every where.
