To tell you the truth most of the stuff you are thinking about will actually arrive on the rock already. Within time small corals, calerpa and feather dusters will start to grow. If you do not have anything on your rock right now, the only chance you will have to make those rocks "live" is to add rock that does have the things you are looking for on them. Don't jump to conclusions too quick, it usually takes about a week if not longer to start to see even a portion of the life on the rock emerge.
I hope this helps. :)

I believe if you start adding some calcium (450 ppm) you should start to get coraline going. Also monitor your alk too.
Hope this helps as to what your asking.

a large deal of what you see on live rock has to do with the quality of rock one buys. Unfortunately, alot of live rock sold in stores hardly falls under the category of "live rock". Ask your lfs how they receive their live rock. Also find out when new shipments come in. You might be surprised over the different answers each store gives you. For now- good foods, calcium, light, and alot of patience.

If you've had your tank running for 2 months with rock in it chances are you have stuff growing on it like mad, you just cant see it.
All the bacteria that break down ammonia and nitrites will make there home on your live rock as well as other microscopic organisms

Hey,
I agree with what you've been told so far, LR has lots of good stuff, and some bad, in it but after a couple of months you should be seeing it. By adding the calcium as suggested you will promote the coraline algae to grow. I would not suggest that you put your aquarium in a spot where it gets direct sunlight. You will have trouble controling the temp and aglae growth.
Take care,
