is there an amount of lr one should put in your tank or is that left up to the individual. i currently have appr 40lbs in mine.i was just wondering how much i should have in it

1-2 lbs. per gallon is a good rule of thumb. So if I were you I would add a bit more.

what will happen if my tank has already cycled.can i add more?

You will go through a mini cycle, depending on how much you add, and how "clean" it is, Like if you have it shipped and is "cured" (which I think is a bunch of whooey cause you still have to cycle it)
I personally would try to change your CC to Live Sand, before I added any more LR...You'll have a much healthier tank, and keep your nitrates lower with Sand..
And LR and the quantity is really a matter of taste too,
