How much do you have, how much are you adding? Is it all LS? Is any of it dead sand...like Southdown?

If your base is entirely live sand right now, then you should be able to add this directly, all at once. If you were putting a layer of "dead" sand over the live sand, I'd say do it gradually, in thinner layers so as not to kill the existing live sand. But if it's live, you should be OK.

Basically...you should safely be able to add an inch or two at a time. length of tank multiplied by width of tank multiplied by depth of sand = pounds of sand. So...divide 20 by the length and width of your tank...if that is less than 2...you should be fine. anything more than 2 inches and you may trap pods and worms.

if you have a ***** near you they should have the caribean live aragonite sand that is white in 20 pound bags. atleast mine did.

Did I read your equation correct? LxWxdepth =lbs. of sand?
I don't think that is right.......
