I have 2 questions. The first concerns aquarium placement. I have a rather small apartment, and the only place I really see to begin my new hobby (avoiding windows, vents, etc) is to put the aquarium at approximately 90 degrees with my 54" big screen tv. Will the sound and changing colors be stressful, if not detrimental, to my future fish and inverts? My second question concerns aquarium shape. Should a reef tank be deeper, rather than the "typical" long rectangular shape we are so accustomed to? I'm curious to know what shapes you all have. Thanx in advance for all your help. Tammi

I am not sure about the TV being close to the tank. I guess the question might be how long is the tv turned on each day? I know when my screaming 2 and 3 year old nephews come over, I can literally watch my tank shut down. All of my corals close up and the fish hide.
As far as tank shape is concerned, it could be whatever your imagination wants it to be. I made mine and it's 20" deep 48" wide and 30" tall for 125 gallons. A friend had one made with a hole in the middle so he could set a trophey, a plant or something. Hope this helps!

I have a 75 gal tank right next to my 35" TV and I have it hooked into my Sony Home theater (LOTS OF SOUND). I yet to have any problems with my fish or verts. I notice they go into hiding in the rocks during any sudden flashs of light and sound. It all depends on how long and offen your watching TV.
