Me being a major newbie getting my first tank just over a month ago, a 90 gallon because they said the larger the easier. Stupid me trusted my lfs. I got the 90 gallon reef ready, mega flow wet/dry for a 125g, 9.5 mag drive, 100 lbs of live sand, 45 lbs of base rock and 65 lbs of live rock. I paid to have them set it up since I never did this before. Talking with everyone here, I got the tank cycled. We got some fish and cleaner crew. Since it is my birthday tomorrow my wonderful wife decided to get me a protien skimmer so I started looking. I couldn't figure out why they all wouldn't fit. The Euroreef was short enough, but to big at the base to fit in the sump. The coralife super skimmer would fit in the base, but to tall. I only had 23 inches from the bottom of the sump to the board under the tank. I have been finding more lfs and learned how I got ripped off and stupid the original lfs was. So today we went to one I trust and asked them why All Glass makes the stand and tank so the skimmers don't fit. Turns out the idiots installed the stand upside down!! :scared: They drilled a hole through the board for the overflow that didn't need to be done. We went back to the store to complain and the wife of the owner says that she isn't a tech and they must have done this for a reason. We showed them that all the ones in their store is right but she couldn't figure it out. She was on the phone telling him that we were complaining that the tank was installed upside down. I said yep, it was a real pain till I got that thing called gravity fixed so the water wouldn't keep falling out. Then she said the stand was made to be that way. We told her we called All Glass Aquarium and they laughed and couldn't believe it. I figured to heck with them touching it again and will take out the fish and place in a 10 gallon, move the water and lr to new garbage cans and with help remove the tank and flip the stand over.

Don't ever use the lfs in North Port Florida. After all, according to them, they have been in business for 20 years and NEVER made a mistake.

wow, sorry to hear that man. I can't understand how some people can sleep at night after screwing something like that up then not admitting to their mistake. I hope you can get it all "straightend up". Goodluck.

Thanks, after talking with everyone on these posts, listening to the other posts, and reading. I think I know more than she does and thats saying something as I feel after I finally do this for a couple of years I hope to go from novice to amateur.

Thats funny, we thought the same thing. They still say they did this for a reason. This from the person that thought they installed the tank upside down.

We wish, but they our saying its how they set up the tank. The mega flow would cover the drill holes. It would cost more for an attorney, but we will see what we can do.

This sounds like your typical Florida labor problem.
The store you dealt with likely used what is called a sub contractor to do your tanks installation. This means the store does not have to provide any type of insurance, benefits or matching social security funds to the person(s) that installed the tank.
It also means that they pretty much have to use anyone that has incorporated, purchased or chosen to go exempt for workmen's compensation and has a occupational license that says "aquarium installer" and has provided proof of liability insurance.
Of course none of this means that the people doing the work are actually qualified to do it but have filled out the appropriate paper work and have been shaken down by the folks in Tallahassee to the tune of 2 to 3 thousand dollars before being allowed to go into "business"
An idiotic situation?? Of course; but as long as the parasite class gets there money, which in this case is the bureaucrats at the state level of government they see no need to change anything.
Of course the answer to all of this is HILLARY 08. She can then finish turning the country into a socialist one and then at least everyone will be equal. Unfortunately that means equally pissed off

They are suppose to call me today with what they are doing. If they won't do anything, then my wife will put an editorial in the newspaper and also notify the BBB. Don't mess with my wife when she is taking invertility medications.

Well, they called today and won't replace the stand saying that a lot of people want it that way (obviously they still can't admit they made a mistake). Said they will come out next Friday to flip it over. A co-worker taday stated he had a problem with them when they sold him what they said was a peaceful fish and when he put it in his tank it went straight over and ate three fish. Turned out to be a spotted grouper when he looked it up. My wife checked today and found out in the last 36 months they have had two complaints to the Better Business Bureau and they refused to resolve the problems. As my wife stated "Game On!!"

Actually it is a family business and the sons installed the tank. We found some people at another lfs that said they use to work for them but they were idiots and they left and made their own business.

As far as taking everything out - how much livestock do you have? When you take all the water out get a few rubbermaids to drain the water; you can put the fish right in there. Flip. Refill. But do you actually want to use these same guys to do it?? :thinking:

I won't let them in my house, I will fix it myself with help from my neighbor for lifting. I will use the same water over and put all the livestock in a 10 gallon with the water from my tank with a powerhead. I will use the newspapers and such to go after them. I didn't want to go to the point of being thrown out as I have been a Fierfighter here in the City for 21 years and didn't want the department to look bad when the new report comes on saying Firefighter goes made and stuffs lady in Fish tank, News at 11:00.

My wife talked to them again and she told them that we have talked with All Glass Aquarium, multiple other lfs, and above all is on a message board dealing with saltwater tanks. She stated that everyone has their own opinion and that they have never made a mistake. She also stated that just because some people have fish tanks they think they are experts. My wife told her that it was funny that the Manufacturer says your idiots, everyother lfs and the message board that has more knowledge about saltwater fish tanks from all over the world think your idiots, and then told her that in Websters Dictionary her picture is in there under ass*#@e! God I Love her. Then she left before she got herself into trouble.

Make sure the hole that was drilled in the bottom of the tank is not going to weaken the base structure of the stand. id want a new stand w/o the hole. you should have asked them why you werent offered the option of right side up or down since everyone was requesting it?!
