Long Distance Walkie talkies

Anyone have a good recommendations? I want something that can be used in the city.

How much distance?
Personally, I like Motorolla XTN UHF radios... technically you need a license to use them... technically.
They are really popular in stores, so I'm not sure if you run into problems using them in the city... if you overlap a frequency used by an FCC licensee, you can get yourself in a pack of trouble.

If there comes a situation I need to use it, they are more than welcome to come dig me out and take me to jail.

Maybe... in the city you've got obstructions everywhere... PTT mobile phones may be a better choice.

yeah 3-4 miles is going to be a bit much in the big city. Anything you see "advertised" in your head make it a third and that is what you'll get if you get lucky.
