long tentacle anemone

I have a true perc in mine. They don't prefer the LTA but I got mine to take the anemone by acclimating them in the same bag together. I filled the bag up enough so that the clown could stay away from the anemone if she wanted to so that she wouldn't get stung at first. Now she stays in her anemone all the time. It's cool to watch.

Sly and RbMount.....can you give me some tips with LTA? I got mine yesterday but its not feeding and now has a gaping mouth. What do you feed your LTA's?
THanks

Keep a close eye on it for now, I would suggest that having only gotten it yesterday then its still acclimating itself to your water conditions and lighting. Don't panic yet. It could be shifting energy in order to make a move right now. Watch for anything coming out of the mouth or any long stringy floaties in the water column.
I also suggest that you feed it once or twice a week with mysis shrimp, krill, silversides, frozen plankton, formula 1. Do not feed with brine shrimp. Rinse all frozen food in Ro/Di water before feeding.

I feed mine Mysis shrimp once a week. I thaw a cube in some water and then suck it up with a plastic turkey baster. Then I gently squirt it out into the tentacles near the mouth. It curls it's tentacles up around the food and will shrink some after I do this.

What do the stringy floaty things in the water mean? I have been getting some of that lately.

A. Your anemone is simply excreating waste - feeding to much.
B. Your anemone is loosing its zooxanthellae - a bad thing.

Thank you Thomas and Sly for the info.....I also have a thread here that shows pictures of my anemone....its called "Long tentacle anemone not feeding!!!!". Please take a look and let me know what you think. Also Sly - when you feed stuff to your LTA does it quickly eat it? I mean like in 5 minutes? Or will it toy with it for a while? Does it anytime seem totally unresponsive to food? Also my LTA has not dug itself into the substrate...is that ok?
Also theres no excretion. On teh very first night I saw a very negligible amount of white stuff. But nothing since....
Thanks....
Jacob.

My anemone is kind of sloppy in eating. It will wrap its tenticles around some of the food while letting some get away. I don't feed it very much.
Give it awhile to stabilize. Mine took about 2 weeks before I noticed a change. Mine was a pale yellow when I first got it. After 2 weeks its tenticles started to thicken and turn a darker tan color.
Mine has never dug down into the substrate. Instead I dug out a small hole for its foot to sink into and I placed a few rocks around it to lean against.

I have another question for someone... I have had a brown hair algae bloom for some reason. I have 0 nitrates, nitrites, ammonia pH 8.3 SG 1.023 temp 82...
I had a leak develop in my refugium a couple weeks ago and I had to replace it with another one. Shortly after I did, I started getting brown algae for some reason. My guess is that it may have something to do with my topoff water. I used a "tap-water filter" like always. The filtered water does not show anything on my water tests and so it seems to still be clean. So I'm confused.:notsure:
I have a screen that I made into an algae scrubber in the fuge and It's now covered in brown algae also. I'm hoping that it will take over my refugium and deplete whatever it is that is in the tank causing this outbreak.
My anemone has not been opening very much and most of my snails are flipping upside down. So something is going on... The anemone has been shooting out some strings as well but the clowns are doing their best to help keep it clean. Any ideas? Should I leave the lights on and let the algae grow and grow and then harvest it out of the tank, thereby removing whatever polutant that may be feeding it? I vaccumed the substrate but the next day it was back to brown.

Not sure if this is the right advice....but I had a lot of green and brown algae blooms earlier. Then I started using a product called RowaPhos. Put it into a filter bag and dropped it into the sump. A few days later everything disappeared and has never returned since.....
Also Sly--how much lights do you have and what kind are they?
