Hi all, did the rinsing of coconut carbon in my 404 fluval today and noticed the water in the cannister looked funny, little water swirls all over so I put it back together and got my 303 that I have polyfiber init.Took out the three trays and the large sponge filters and looked in the water,all kinds of little splashes ,what it looked like, so I got a big flash light and pointed it down into the cannister, I couldnt believe all the amphipods in there It looked like poping popcorn, some coming out of the water, question with this many critters and some were large ones at that, does anyone think I should periodically dump the contents of the cannister back into the tank so the fish get more natural food ,or just leave them in there, I cant see how the bigger ones would ever get back in the tank, they sure looked happy in there, but I was wondering is there such a thing as too many in a area without a way of naturaly controlling them,,,,cya

If it was me I'd remove some of them now and then and treat your fish ... those that make it past the fish should take up residence in the substrate or rock. Sounds like a little refugium action ya got going there
