Looking for opinions on best digital camera setups (including macro lens or whatever you use) under $1000, and if it's possible under $500. Close up photos or links to threads with close up photos using the setup would be greatly appreciated.

Just got me a Sony DSC-H10 HD Cybershot. Its works nice. And for the price of it im very happy. It was only 299.99. I dont know anything about photography as well, but I got some pics I took with it in my 14 diary and a few in my 30 havent really played with it yet though

yes. you can check out my thread: snorkeling in st. john, usvi. those pics aren't as good quality as the camera actually takes. when i cropped them, the photo quality went way down. also, the pics were taken underwater, so the case was covering the lens and could've made the quality worse; regular pics look much much nicer than the ones in my thread. anyway, its a sweet camera-- 12 megapixels, which is on the higher range for a digital camera. another plus side to it is that canon makes a custom underwater case for it which is what i used for the pics in the mentioned thread. definitely look into it. the best news is that it fits your budget. amazon has it on sale for 479.99. heres a link:

hope this helps
