Anyone know of a chain type stor (eg. michaels, HD, etc.) that might sell sheets of thick acrylic??
Also, about what strength or width of acrylic would i need to build at least a 36 x 17 x 18 inch sump ??
thanks all.

Home Depot had arylic sheet
48" x 24" x .25" and
48" x 24" x .125"
I would consider a clear(not so clear like glass/arcylic) RubberMaid container myself.

Go to a local glass shop or order online.
Check here...

This is where I ordered mine.

I use a rubbermaid container on two of my tanks, and have used old glass tanks before, but it is fun to make things with acrylic. If you make a sump out of acrylic, I would suggest getting at least 1/4" thickness for that size sump. If it is too thin, it will bow and possibly break under the pressure of the water. Get weld-on 16 for adhesive.

Me and a friend are building sumps from a 4x8 sheet of quarter inch for $75. Gonna build two sumps that holds around 22 gal. Hard to find anything that will fit under a 55 gal. If you are starting out a new tank and think you might want a sump to go under it later on, dont buy a 55.
