Anemones are very difficult animals to maintain; they require pristine water and need intense lighting. Clown fish do not need anemones to be content. If you are compelled to have a host animal for your clowns then try a leather coral such as Toad Stool. My two Clarkiis hang out in my Xenia and are very happy.

What size tank, what lighting, how old is your tank? Do you want it just for the clown? If so what kind of clowns do you want?
Clowns don't need anenomes. They will often host in corals. So you might want to look at that option. Anemones are PIA too, especially carpets.

Littlebuck,
Check this thread out. It has a lot of stuff. Also check the Clownfish and Anenome Forum. It is loaded with good info.

From the perspective of a fellow newbie. I was dead set on getting an anenome but the more I looked into it, the more I decided that it was WAY more trouble than it was worth. You should see for yourself though. I would research heavily for a month, with particular attention to all the things that can go wrong and cause
and
and
. I might get an anenome in the future but I right now I don't want to risk killing everything because of a small mistake.

I agree with what everyone else has already said. Anemones are one of the tougher salty critters to keep and some of them, like the carpet, can get truly HUGE :scared: It's advised that you get your tank up and running properly for at least a year or so before you even consider putting an anemone in.
So while you're getting that tank running well for about a year study up on them! Make notes on which ones are hardier, what they need to survive, and which ones what type of clown seem to prefer hosting. I.e., I believe it's the condylactus (bleh, spelling) that's one of the more hardy anemones but clowns don't usually like to host it (if I'm remembering correctly so check on that)

Right now since i just started i only have a couple of things in the tank
1 Fire shrimp
1royal gramma
2 green cromies
1 star fish
and some snails
and a small lil polyp not sure what it is it was given to me buy a friend who gave me the live rock.

i say definatly do some reserch. I dont think you have enough lighting for a carpet, but some others you can like a bubbletip. I would also wait at least another 5 months or so before considering putting an anenome in to make sure that your tank is mature. You could spend all this time doing more reserch

i would say you should have waitied longer for the star fish too....but oh well.... what kind is it by the way? It is reef safe i am imagining?

a toadstool would do nicely with that lighting. They get big too. a great centerpiece. They are up there on my favorites. Clowns will also host frogspawns, hammers, mushrooms, pretty much any coral at all.
