no, unless you have a lot die at once, they will not hurt your tank. I have about a hundred in my tanks of all sizes. Most everyone has snails.
I also have hermits. They will sometimes eat the snails for thier shells, but if you keep them well fed and lots of extra shells.

If you have a sand bed get something to keep it mixed up so you dont build up detritus. Also get the red-legged hermits as they are less aggressive towards the snails than the blue-legged ones are.

no, he's right, the scarlet hermits tend to be less aggressive.
How long has your tank been up and running??
I would start with 20 Nassarius Snail for the sand, 10 to 20 Ceriths for the rocks and walls, and 10 scarlet hermits. Though I have the blue legs and dont have too many problems, Just be sure to have lots of extra shells.
Do you have a lot of algea, if so, then add a couple of mexican turbos also.
Then add more if you think you need them

Snails are not a problem. You may want to stay away from sea cucumber though.
Everyone has their favorites but here are a few of mine.
Scarlet hermit/Electric blue hermit - both have been good to me.
Mithrax crab - I love them (not too many though I have 3 in a 60 G)
Tiger Sand Conch - My current favorite
Nassarius Snails - nice for sand bed
Turbo Snail - Good as a generalist
Cerith Snail - I am not so hot on them...but I know many others that are...so I will add them to the list.
