looking for fellow reefers in NJ

Is there anyone from north or central NJ who is involved with a reef/ frag trading club? They sound like neat ideas and I was wondering if any exist to join.
Thanx.

Here's a reefer from Jersey. I don't belong to or know of any frag. trading clubs. Living by Belmar at the shore.

Hey Rane that LFS (if any) do you use? I'm getting tired of the same stuff at mine. Also, how NORTHern NJ are you. I range from the Somerville area to the Morristown area. Anywhere near you?

hooked, there are a couple of stores up in Wayne on rt. 23. One is Rainbow Aquarium the other is Pets plus. They are directly across from each other in strip malls. Pets plus gets pretty good prices on fish (flame angel $35., also good prices on tangs. cleaner shrimp $17.) Rainbow used to have good prices on corals. Tropiquarium in Ocean is getting ready to move to a new location and has some awesome deals on tanks and stands. Usually they sell tanks at cost. Prices for corals are high.

Hookedonreefs,
I am in Hudson County, Union City area..I have gone to a few LFS the ones I go to are Absolutley Fish on Rt 46..pretty good selection but most of the people there are cluless and very high prices as all the LFS have, but my favorite one is Underwater world in rosele park its a one man operation but the fish and coral are A1 prime, Ihave never seen a dead or sick fish there, his prices are a little high but to be honest I will pay the extra money knowing that all his fish are healthy and I am not going to introduce anything in mine, he is very helpful and will not sell you anything that isnt going to do well in your tank, he will always feed any fish you buy from him in front of you so you can see him eat. if you know of any opther lfs that you think is worth it let me know I will take the trip.

The only LFS outside of ***** that I've gone to is Ocean Gallery II near Watchung. It's on Rt. 22. They have some pretty good stuff at reasonable prices. That's where I've gotten my corals from and they're all doing good. They also have some nice LR vats to choose from. There's another lfs about two miles from there called pet shanty, but I've never been. I might go this weekend. I'll have to take a ride to the one's you guys have mentioned.
If either of you ever go to Ocean Gallery II let me know. I'm right down the road and would love for someone to stop by and let me know how my setup is. It's really tough doing the whole reef thing without people being able to give on-the-spot feedback. I always wonder if I'm interpreting what is described on this forum correctly.
Thanks for the lfs locations. I'll finally have reasons for a road trip!

I've been to both Pet Shanty and Ocean Gallery II. Ocean Gallery gets in some pretty decent corals. One of the last places around where you can actually roll up your sleeve and "hand" pick your own rock(big pieces, little weight). Pet Shanty is ok. I never found them to stand out for any particular reason. I did pick up some red ball sponge and sunflower a while back. Both have disappeared since. Underwater world is definately pricey. Blue linkia starfish $45 last time I was there. Too rich for my blood. Let me know of any good finds.

Corky-
Seems you traveled to almost all the lfs mentioned in this post. What's your take on Ocean Gallery compared to the rest? It seems OK, but as said, it's the only I've ever been to. You're down near the shore right? Are there any good lfs down there? We travel to LBI & IBSP alot. Didn't know if that was in your direction.

I think Ocean Gallery II is a pretty good store. They are a bit stronger with corals that fish. I believe that the owner has passed the business to his son within the last year or two. I personally like to visit a variety of stores to compare quality and price. Tropiquarium is a large store now only dedicated to fish(they got rid of dog, cat, etc. a couple of years ago). They should be moving into their new store in about 2 months. Located in Ocean on Rt. 35. They get a very good variety of fish. They also stock a couple of large tanks for corals and clams but you better bring your Visa card.(best deal going is blue legged hermits for $1. each. 10% off fish on weekends) Another store down in my area in Fish Tales located in Brick. They just relocated to a new spot themselves about 1 1/2 months ago. I haven't been to their new store yet but, I hear it's nice. I personally live off exit 100 so I live north of LBI and IBSP. If you ever get down by exit 37 there is another large store called Ocean Aquarium. Moderately priced on both corals and fish. Of course each store can vary greatly depending on days of shipments.

I haven't been to Ocean Gallery in a while as it is a little far from where i am about 5 miles from the NY state border. But have found that I have had the best luck withe livestock that i've gotten from Absolutely over the other stores up here in NNJ even though their pricing and help insn't that great. I will probably give a U build it order a try sometime in the next couple of months.

hey im from tomsriver. well actualy beachwood but thats not the point.:D i dont know of any clubs in nj but i would join if i found one i always wanted to set up a reef tank. this for me a 15 year old i think i will have to wait till i find a better job then an icecream store:D lol. but i would always want to buy some frags if any one would like to do that in the future.

Just went to Ocean Gallery today. Picked up a HUGE purple tipped elegant coral for $110. What a steal. I also got 50 lbs. of nice LR for $300. I totally screwed my aquascape up putting it in, so I'm gunna tear down the entire tank next weekend and rebuild from scratch. I have the whole big pile of rock in the center of the tank thing going now. :(
I'll post some pics after I redo eveything.
RobN70, I'll definately have to check out Absoloutly now.
king of ninx- I'm going to try fragging shrooms soon. If you ever want a couple just let me know. I'm planning a long-term project to have a prop. tank. If it works out, it will be when you're about 20. By then maybe we could talk and you can stock your tank with prop.ed corals.
I'm going to join the club OYT suggested. I'll let everyone know how it is.
