i need some good skimmers my budget is $200-250..my tank is a 125 reef with sps lps, softies, leathers, and mushroom 95 in total..i want something suitable for at leat 200 gallons...
the problem is i dont have room with my mag 12 return pump in my sump for a skimmer in sump, so i must have the pump in sump and th ereturn from the skimmer and the skimmer as a hang on to the sump.
i made a list tell me what you guys think,
1-TurboFlotor Multi SL Hang-on Protein
Skimmer by AquaMedic $249 (for 260 gallons)
2-Turboflotor Multi 1000(might be simillar as the first) $279 for 250 gallons
3-octopus NW-150 best bang for my buck and skims up to 180 gallons on sale for $170.
any others ?
the guy who built my wet/dry said a recirculating skimmer wont work in it..so i need a NW Protein skimmer for at least 180-200 gallons...
i'm just coming off a coralife SS 125 that was in the same chamber as my mag 12 and even after i switched chambers...there were still bubbles floating in the sump then the mag 12 returned them into the DT looked bad.
in my sump there are 2 chambers seperated by an acrylic piece but it for some reason doesnt go all the way down...it is down the middle I would estimate each chamber is 15" from front to back and 5-6" wide...my mag 12 is in the left side of the sump...when the skimmer is off the tank looks amazing...i'm affraid getting a new powerful skimmer with a strong pump and the 1/2 inch gap under the divider of the 2 chambers in the sump will cause so much pressure that bubbles are inevetable...the tank looks like garabage with thousands of micro bubbles in it and with no skimmer wont things start dying ? unless i feed once a week. right now the dimensions of the right chameber in the sump are 15" front to back and 5" wide...but like i said from front to back where the acrylic divider is there is 1/2 of space..I don't know why it was designed this way...if someone could help i need to buy a skimmer and get it running in 5 days or I'm affraid things will start dying the skimmer has been off for 1 day now.

If yours is T1000 Multi, then the actual rating for it is 120g. Manufacturer rates it to 250g but that isn't the real rating for it. You may have wanted to wait a bit longer after posting your question. You made your purchase in under an hour from your post.

i think i'll go with a guy i trust and have done business wi th b4 that tells me its a great skimmer a huge improvement from my coralife SS 125...than with all due respect you telling me that it doesnt skim for 250 gallons but for 120..they just write 250 but its acctually 120.. however you came up with that.

Skimmer ratings are often like MPG with car ads your milage or efficiency may vary. We all have to make some compromise to fit equipment for our individual system. Your choice should be fine for your system. Remember a Skimmer is only 1 tool in keeping a successful reef tank. From what you say your livestock is you may not want to over skim anyway. You can always do an extra water change every other month to keep your tank in balance.

I dont know much about this skimmer but..... It MAY be a much better then your corallife ss but that dosent say much. And unless your tank is WAY over stocked you can go a week without skiming. I know people with AMAZING reefs that dont ever use skimmers. And I would NOT doubt that skimmer is not rated for what it says. Please dont bumb your thread so many times. People will post if they know anything about it.
I would just go with a octopus NW. They are GREAT skimmers

those are in sump skimmers and wont fit in my sump. otherwise i would have gotten it.
its ok bumping my thread here was a mistake it cost me a day when my skimmer couldve been sent out because of to me in my opinion a bogus comment that i was foolish enough to listen to just my opinion...my tank can go a long time with no skimmer and its filled with fish...13 small fish in my 125 but it bothers me if nitrates are 10,in my reef so i would lik eto get a skimmer asap to keep them at 0 -2.5 as they always are and have been for 2 years.
