I am looking to see any butterfly fish pics. I am looking to get one of these fish and I am not sure which one to get. I am also curious about the Meyeri butterful fish that this website sells. I know it is a difficult fish to keep but has anyone had success?
Thanks for the pics.

natep206 were you asking me? these two have another week of qt then they go into my 200gallon main tank. When they are in the main tank, I'll get a few better pics.

Joker ca...I actually love bannerfish more, but two I got 5 or 6 months ago never survived their qt period...they are supposed to be "hardy" as butterflies go...but they never ate and just weakened and died, pretty quickly, within a week of qt. So I decided to go with something different...we'll see how they do. I think I'm probably maxed out now and do not plan on adding any more fish. Nice pics of your bannerfish. :happyfish

Sleasia....very nice photos!!! I really like your display....impressive. I hope the butterflys work out well for you...I hear a lot of times they tend to not fair well in captive systems primarily due to diet......keep us posted on how they do.

joker ca....great looking bannerfish (Heniochus acuminatus )....if I ever develop a larger system I'd love to keep a couple myself. I've always liked them...very "moorish idol" looking...but much easier to keep...

Well, here's a bad confession...my lighting system only cost $20...I got track lighting on sale at home depot, two lights and one track for $9...I bought two, put them up and ran the cord down the wall to an outlet that's nearby and happens to have a dedicated wall switch... So now I can switch my lights on and off from the wall...But I am only using standard daylight "globe" (round) bulbs....nothing fancy...probably it works because I also have skylights above...but because of the skylights I also need a chiller in summer months - I have a pacific coast chiller.....

NMreef...the butterflys do seem to be a bit finicky eater. these two are pigs, but I have noticed they seem to like the frozen mysis the best...but they do eat pellet formula 1, not 2 so much, and they also graze on the three different seaweeds I alternate with, brown, green and purple...so hopefully. If these don't make it , I guess I have to assume my tank is just too small for them. Wierdly enough the nicest fish in my tank, the naso tang, was bothering the racoon for awhile :notsure: But now they seem fine together.

Jpa0471 Nice banners....wish mine had made it to the main tank...Also maybe I should go ahead and remove the 4 pieces of "reef replicas" in my main tank and replace them with more live rock...I also have about 50-60 lbs of live rock in my sump. should I?
