hi my name is amy and i just figured out how to post
and not just reply so i am gonna post :help: i wanted to know if there are such thing as BAD snails for salt tanks? i have a 5g nano with a 2g sump. i am about 7 weeks in and and $2000.00. I love my tank i feel obsessed!!!! i bought a green brain coral and whene i got it home noticed lil baby snails coming from a whole in it. they are a abalony colored shell also there is one that i spotted this a.m. that looks like Garry spounge bobs snail ( i have kids). are these bad??? my zoos are disappearing?? i thought it was a brittle star eating them so i took him out bout 3 wks ago, still disappearing...so i took out 2 conch snails and 4 mini hermits and 1 bigger blue hermit. i caught them eating my xina
.there gonig back to the lfs. there is a white film on about 5 zoo polyps and some white specks on the base of lots of the polyps. i sook some of them off in the tank lotsa garbage comes out. what should i do???? 1 more thing there are some clear long looking worms coming from the live rock about every 5 am there is a green band it reaches across the sand bed and alge and pulls it back to its base. ive never seen the body but it does spit out waste or dirt. any ideas what these are????

look up sundial snail and pull em out....they love to munch zooos....
conch snails ive never seen on the rocks... plus they need a larger system...so i agree take those back
get some nass snails as a clean up crew...
seems like you might have a spaghetti worm...good critter
have you looked for nudibraches..... they like zoos also...

i'm not exactly sure what the worms are but i have them all over my LR and i've never had any problems......i really can't imagine anything in your tank eating your corals.....alot of what you might have seen is them simply eating stuff off of your coral.....your brittle star is completely reef safe from what i hear and i have one as well with assorted corals....also with the hermits, i have about 4 different kinds and have never had a problem....i just think you may be mistaken on what they are doing.....most likely just eating things off of the corals......as far as what is happening to the zoos, what is your lighting? I've seen zoo polyps just fall off when they are dying from not getting enough light.....look around on your sand and see if you find any of the missing polyps...

thanks for the quick replies. i looked up sun dial snails and found a snail index but nothing matches what is in my tank, so ill keep searchin. my lighting is great, i have 2 ballest with 2 32-w 10,000 k/ ACT 03. nice lights paid lots for them
but well worth it also just installed 2 blue LED lights. so i dont think lighting is the problem. i looked for some nudis and found nothin. i had those conches to clean up some ugly redish brown alge that is growing fast. i know they need bigger peramiters so thats also why they are out. ive bought like 20 snails for that small tank i dont want to over load on them but the job of glass cleaning is still not getting done as nicely as i would like it.
