Lost Old Yellow to Ick! My maroon clown has been in QT for 3 days. Blue Tang is laying down alot (no ick). I have a 55 gallon tank and over the last few months I have lost ALOT of fish. What is going on! Water levels and temp are all okay.
HELP! Trying not to get discouraged.

Sorry! No I was not quarantining them. It was not recommended. Since I joined the website it has been VERY helpful. Anyway... My PH level is 8.4, my Ammonia is at zero, my Nitrite is at zero and my Nitrate is yellow (sorry no card). My salinity level is 21. The temp is 76-78. My Yellow Tang was very thin and stayed towards the bottom. I returned him to the pet store and she QT him for 1-1/2 weeks (clout). He was fine when he returned then a week later he has a brownish color spot near his eye (looked like a scrap or a sore) then he started to get thin AGAIN, his color was fading and he looked velvety. QT for another week then he died. Maroon Clown had white spots under his chin and on his fins, he's been QT for four (4) days now and he doesn't look good. Color fading, won't eat. Blue Tang still laying flat, little movement. Eats very little. Please, please HELP! I don't know what to do? I love my fish and I don't know what to do? ......Baffled

Will get it to 1.025. Any more suggestions. The blue yellow tail damsels, starfish, fire clam and condi anemones are doing fine.

A 55 is about the minimum size tank adequate for a Yellow Tang. I'm afraid it's just way too small for two Tangs. Your Yellow Tang probably couldn't fight off the Ick because of the stress from being with the other Tang and not being able to get away from it.
Unfortunately a 55 is too small for a Blue Tang. It will probably recover now that the Yellow is gone but it's time in your tank is probably limited to no more than a few more years.

In a couple of months I will be purchasing 110 gal. How many tangs? Any suggestions on what to put in with it so the blue is not stressed?

That's great news that you're upgrading soon. I believe that's the perfect solution. I would stick to just the one Tang but having another smaller Tang species in there sometimes works. The species of Tangs you had are compatible, just not in a 55.
Check into the Rabbitfish family....

You clown should improve in the QT, unless he was really covered in ick. Make sure that your QT, which I assume is under hypo, has the proper pH!
While you lower the salinity, the ph needs to stay around 8.1-8.4!
I would stick with one tang per tank. Even in a 110g. (IMO)

Keeping tangs in small tanks never ends in success. Small tanks IMO are anything less than 125gal. Keeping tangs in my 300gal, the difference in their behavior is astonishing compared to when they were in small tanks.
