Our big puffer died a little while ago. He was beautiful, lively and quite the character. We only had him a few weeks but my wife and I immediately fell in love with him and got very attatched. Our big mistake was that we overfed him. He then devoured a few fish in the tank as well and so much air got trapped inside it killed him. Please new puffer owners DO NOT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE! Watch what you feed these beautiful animals they have a voracious appetite. We should have researched about these guys more. My wife and I are heartbroken and are kicking ourselves in the ass about it. We will continue with puffers but Big Puffer ( that was his name) will live on in our hearts forvever. Thanks for listening.

This is something I have posted more times then I care to re call and that is feed only till the belly begins to bulge then quit. I doubt air got trapped as the Puff never left the water but I bet its belly from all the food looked like it was full of air. These Puffs will eat till they drop unless you as the feeder show some restraint in your feeding. I am not faulting you just trying to use your loss to make a point that I seem not to be able to get across no matter how many times I post it.

I am real sorry to hear about you loss. I know how you feel I have lost some great fish over the years. One thing I have learned about feeding puffers is to feed them slow, give them a little bit at a time and space it out. That way you can control how much he eats and you can see that belly to know when he has enough. Again sorry, and Good Luck in the future.
