Lost Powder Blue Tang

After a day's search for my powder blue tang i found him inside my castle (it's fo tank)... his body looks picked at, most likely after death, but what's weird is his gills...w ell the flap over the gills. It seemed darker blue, which i thought looked pretty cool and thought it was part of his growth however now i see his gills were bluish red and inflated.
This wasn't my fish... and I don't know what to tell the owner... even though he left me with this fish and never found a buyer, i feel bad. Is there something I could have done? My parameters are normal... does the inflation of the gills have to do with anything?

Sounds like an infection was there. Not sure what its called though. I've seen it before. Turns them redish around the gills. There are treatments for it. He may have gotten it when placed in your tank, ie going from one environment to a foreign environment. Powder Blues are like that.

hmmm interesting. I really don't know. I do know it is an infection though. I bet if you peeled back the gill you might be able to see it....
