I have a 110 gal aqaurium with 4 damsels and a royal gramma and watchmen. The royal has been in there for a couple months and have seen him a total of 12 times but haven't seen him in 4 weeks. My watchmen I saw the first day and that's it. I don't know how to get them to come out. I have fed them live brine to get them to come out and still nothing. I have checked the over flow nothing. I have removed rocks nothing. I don't know what else to do!?!? . Help Im open to anything

Hi,

Welcome to the site.

With a proper CUC (Clean up crew) of snails, bristle worms and such, a body will not be found...they did their job.

Damsels are evil mean little beautiful fish, that when mature, kill everything not as aggressive as itself. I have no doubt that the Royal Gramma hid out of self preservation, the damsels probably finally got to it. The watchmen goby didn't have a chance, if it disappeared after just one day...either the damsels killed it, or it didn't take well to acclimation and died on it's own.

When the damsels run out of victims they will turn on each other.

Should I get rid of my damsels and start over ?

Hi,

LOL...Getting them out of the tank would be a major challenge...you will have to remove every rock, and corner them one by one. They will eventually bite you drawing blood, I don't like them for that reason alone. There are other aggressive fish that can live with them, they are a beautiful little fish...so it's all in what you want to keep in your tank.. However, if you want the more docile fish, then you will have to rehome the damsels. So that leaves you with a choice of whether you want an aggressive tank, or a calm community one....some people like sharks, eels and scorpion fish, and some folks like myself, like the Hippo tangs, lemonpeel angelfish, and seahorses.. You are only limited by the size of your tank.

With saltwater critters, whatever you add, will dictate what can live in your tank, so checking on compatibility is very important. If you are ever in doubt on a SW critter, ask here...somebody has had that critter, and can tell you what will, or will not get along with it.
