Lots of green algea

Hey Everyone
I just set up my tank about 2 weeks ago and i have
some live rock about 10 lbs.and live sand. i got the tank from
friend and it was all set up and everything was fine when i got
it he dumped all the water but kept the sand and rock wet
i now have a domino damsel and a yellow tail blue damsel
about 5 small snails and 3 hermit crabs all of my params are
fine PH is about 8.2-8.4 the ammonia,nitrites,and nitrates are
all below 1 ppm they have never risen or fallen drastically
and i havent lost any fish but i do have a lot of green algea on
the rock and brown on the sand do i need to get more
cleaners could it be a water flow problem i have a emporer
bio filter a rio 200 power head and a rio 1100 am i doing
something wrong or just being impatient

Well it sounds like your tank is probably doing a mini cycle. If your friend got rid of all the old water, thats too bad. Since its all new water, the water needs to balance out and the phosphates are probably high, and thats why you have algae, to combat the phosphates. I wouldn't do anything to the tank for awhile. Just let it settel out on its own, don't add anything yet. Take it slow, I learned that real quick with this hobby, no pun intended. :D

even in this thread I say add plant life to consume the fertilizer currently being consumed by the ugly green algaes.

I would also add some more live rock to help with the filtering process. Your currect filter is really more for getting out the debris and particles, then it is to clean the water. Make sure you rinse out the fiter pads often, like every week, with salt water. Also replacing them every once in awhile will also help. But most of you filtration should come from the live rock. I would also recommend that you get a protein skimmer, to also help cleaning the water. 10 lbs of live rock just isn't enough for a 55 gallon tank. You want at least 55 lbs of rock in there. Some will say more, but that is a good place to start off with. :)
