It's not uncommon to have these types of growth spurts when you change lights, you may also get a diatom bloom. I would check your phosphates and nitrates and make sure they are as low as possible so that the algae will have no food and can die off. You may want to reduce the time your lights are on and make sure that there are no open windows near your tank.
I just got my new lights a week ago, and I went away this weekend. I came back and had a huge diatom bloom, but slowly it is dying off already. I just went out and got a 2nd Sand Sifting Star Fish to help the snails, lawnmower, emerals and blue legged crabs out.
