LOUD overflow question

I got my sump/overflow box installed today. The overflow is a Eshopps PF-300 The noise from the overflow is horrendous!!! It will be going right along, and then a huge GLUG like a toilet flushing!!! THere is a chunk of PVC sitting in the drain in the bottom, before it enters the vinyl tubing to the sump. This is where they have provided a prefilter cylinder to fit over the PVC (floss-stuff), which makes it even louder if it is used. What if we drilled some holes in the side of the PVC so the water has other ways to get in? I think the sound is coming from so much water trying to drain into the only hole.

You mentioned the "flushing" sound of the overflow....do you have any pics showing the inside of the overflow box??? You might want to consider looking at doing a "durso" standpipe or something along that line....If you frequent the other big site, you can see really good examples of what I'm referring too.....

first post yee hawwww
what i done is take a piece of small air line and put it in the hose goin down to my sump 1 piece sticking out at the top
and adjusted how far it was in i started at 1/4 the length and ended up about 2/3 and the other 1/2 the way down when the gurgle stopped and i affixed the top and trimmed it to stay above the tank water level beneath the light hood
i have 2 syphon overflows 1 at each end and the length of the air line varied on both 1 is about 1/2 the other 2/3
