love / hate with anemones

Part 1 - Bubble Tip Aneomone Purchased, looked great, for two days till it roamed the depths and got stuck on the powerhead, pieces everywhere. Too bad they dont regenerate...
Part 2 - I know better, but still love anemones, always wanted one for the reef tank, purchased a Pink Tip Haitian Anemone this time. This time I was prepared, I had made a screen cap over the powerhead, to prevent any mishaps.
The new anomone ate some shrimp the first day, looked amazing, was doing well. Day two, wake up, he is stuck to the filter, dead.
Not nearly the number pieces in the tank, the screen on the powerhead prevented that much at least.
Geez people how do you keep them away. I have rocks around the powerhead, its down out of the way, so if its light its after, it isnt finding it down there. The screen I thought was going to do the job. These things roam that much? Its like russian roulette with these guys in the tank.
Its a 25 gallon, PC lighting (yeah its not MH, but I've read plenty of PC-er's that have the aneomones in their cube), water coniditons are proving to be great, everything else seems to do well. What can I say?
What gives, how do you people do it? how do you keep anemones from suicide? Am I missing something here? I did see the one thread that showed the giant foam block over the powerhead. Is that the only answer? I can't locate those, nor can I say I really would like to have a bouy like that floating in my tank.

Bad luck here, anemones will often move after being placed in your tank to find a suitable spot. They can hide in your LR for up to a week or more acclimating themselves to their new surroundings, yes prefilters are a must.

However its not this that killed either of them in this scenario. water coniditons are proving to be great, everything else seems to do well. What can I say?

A healthy specimen from the get go is prob the most important first step you can take. Some wander quite a bit to find a place to feel comfortable in, some do not. You said it, its definatly a roulette game in the beginning. The larger the system the better off your are, in a cube tank its confined to such a small space, the anemone doesnt have to wander far before its in trouble. If you attempt another I would suggest a bubble tip as they have the highest success rate in small tanks especially with only PC lighting. FYI your second anemone was not well before it met your screened overflow. I have had mine sit right next to it before and it never got sucked into it. See the pics in the link below.
