Low Ph

fowlr man

I have a 25 gallon tank I started about three weeks ago. The live rock has been in about two weeks. I have been doing weekly water changes and my cycling is progressing well. My ammonia has dropped to nothing, my nitrite is fairly high and my nitrate is just starting to rise. The problem has been my Ph. It tests around 7.8. When I mixed up 5 gallons of new water with Instant Ocean salt and tested it before I put it in the aquarium that water read 7.8 also. I'm using RO water and I'm wondering why with the salt it shouldn't be reading higher and if I should be putting something in my water to get that Ph up or is 7.8 is alright. I plan on just having a FOWLR tank.

I wouldnt worry about it right now until your cycle is done. Then you can try different additives/ or a new salt. Truthfully, I have a 150g fowlr and i only check my PH about once a month I know, bad me, but my fish dont seem to mind if it changes .05 -1.0 up or down from target.

I agree you should wait until your cycle is over. Are you planning on taking your water to a saltwater store to have it tested when your cycle is over? They can show you some stuff to add if needed. Mine stayed at 8.0 no matter what I did so I just bought some Seachem Prime I think that keeps it at a steady 8.3 now.
