What is your KH? Are you adding or dosing anything? What are you using to measure as far as test kit?

I wouldn't add stress coat to your top off/makeup water. Really no need for it. I'm assuming your using tap water that is why your using dechlorinator??? Sounds as if the API isn't quite accurate enough, you seem kinda "iffy" on the actual number results. Maybe a more accurate test kit might be in order or soething easier to read, or take a sample to your LFS and have them test it and compare the readings. Water changes with no addition of any chemical should bring in down.

if my conversion factor is correct that is about 16dkh which does seem high. (the api kh test kit is 1 drop per dkh so that means 16 drops.)
I would do nothing. Some times it comes down all on its own.
But I do recommend you google dr. randy holmes-farley diy 2 part system and study the articles.
You should mesasure calcium, alk, and magnesium. With the 2 part system you use inexpensive chemicals to get things in balance. Then maintain the correct levels with dosing.
I think you will find magnesium and calcium low. But it is not uncommon for a tank initially to have elevated calcium and alk levels. Which come down over a few months.

Shhhhhhhhhhhh! don't tell anyone you might have used a "beaslbob" method. You do have a reputation to protect.

I am glad it came down.
