to get my LR looking good do i need to add calcium or anything, or do they just need light? i read somewhere you should add calcium, is this true? does anyone add anything, and if so, how does your rock look? would these minerals help the coralline algae grow more?

Hi, I add coral vite and drip kalkwasser for all topoffs, also add stroteum and magneseum, weekly. As the calcium goes I maintain this at 450 , by adding coral vite, Kalkwasser wont do this and, I have hard growth of green, pink, and purple, lots of it.....cya ....fixit ;) and I have noticed the hard green algea[ will not rub off] since adding new light ,now a total of 784 in a 72 gallon...fixit

I have a FOWLR tank where the corraline has been spreading to the Tufa rock that I put in with some Live Rock. I do weekly water changes and that's it. In my experience, if you do regularly scheduled water changes and have no corals than the calcium in the makeup water if enough to keep your live rock looking nice. If I do happen to put in supplemental calcium, I use Seachem's Reef Complete - use 1 tsp powder for every 20 gallons. HTH

sounds like it cant hurt to add calcium ill probably start doing that. thanx a bunch for all the replies. my LR is looking kind of sad, i think i need to upgrade the lights. i have 1 18 watt full spectrum bulb, and 1 20 watt blue actinic bulb. this is in a 37 gallon aquarium. is this enough? or do i need to upgrade?
