I have just ordered some live rock to be delivered friday. I keep hearing about cured and uncured rock. What does this mean ? Ill be adding the rock to a tank that has not completly cycled and ive also just added 45 lbs of dead sand and 45 lbs. oflive sand. Any help would be appreciated. tank has been running for about 4 months and never cycled with cc and ugf. those are removed now as of last wednesday.

It depends on how much lr you ordered. It will definitely cycle now. Where did you order it from. How much did you get and how is it being shipped?

30lbs will get your tank cycled but it might take a few weeks. It definitely helps that you have more than 3inch ls. IMO I would add more lr to your set-up in the future. Biological filtration will help your tank more than any filter you can add. About 1 1/2- 2 lbs of lr per gallon would achieve this. In my 29gallon I have over 55lbs of lr. Aguacultured lr is pretty dense and is heavier than other types out there. The good news is that you are going to love it! My tank is full of Gulf view rock and it's wonderful. Delivery is very fast and when you remove it from the newspaper(which is a pain in the neck) it will not smell at all. I started off with 30lbs of coraline and after my tank cycled I bought another 25lbs of the premo-deco. I strongly suggest you atleast give it a try and buy a few pounds later on. It is full of life and wonderful colors. I waited for the premo-deco after the cycle so any life on it wouldn't die-off. The rock that you receive from them will be cured. I barely had any die-off and everything is growing great. Below is a list of all the things that hitched on the lr.
crabs
snails
worms(good ones)
1-urchin
1-nudibranch
sponges
gorgonians
several macro-algaes
about 7-8 clams(or oysters)
tons of polyps
fan worms
barnacles
and several other creatures I've yet to identify.
Remove the newspaper and add the rock directly into the tank when you receive it. Let me know if you like it when you receive it. Have fun, frank.
