LR in wet dry?

I read somewhere that you can get away with putting LR in your wet/dry in place of bli balls or other media. I considered this but my question is............is the rock ok without being totally submerged?

the bacteria that you want filtering the water is on the rock. my guess is that it would die when exposed to the air. if you want to use the rock, you could just break it up so its small enough to fit under the water. this would give a better surface area to volume ratio anyway.

we went to the LFS and got some of there rock rubble gave it to us free couple pounds also put 10 pounds of live sand in sump

Can you get away with it? Sure.
Will it be as good as bio balls......No freakin way!
