LR instead of Bioballs

I want to use LR instead of Bioballs in my sump for filtration. How much do I need for a 90gal FO tank which already has 110+pds? I read some where that it should be cleaned periodically, if so how often and how?

Never heard of using LR in sump for anything. If you are referring to cleaning LR periodically, not a good idea.

I currently have a proclear pro 75 sump and i have about 17-20 pounds of rubble rock in the sump. the rubble rock has a higher biological filtering capacity than bioballs, although i have heard bioballs work too. everyone in this area likes rubble better and it has worked great with me. my water has been great since i put it in there. i havent ever cleaned mine and doubt i will because all the crap that was on the rock when ya put it in will fall to the bottom of the sump where ya can suck it up. but the mechanical filtration of the water happens before it hits the rubble so i dont know if you would ever have to worry about cleaning it.
hope this helps
