Ok, my LR will be here on thursday., in the event that I am not ready to put it in the tank right away, can I store it in the salt water that im going to be using in a day or two (after the LR gets here)
Can I just leave it in the drum of salt water, then put the water and the lr in my tank and add my sand? or will I have to throw all that water away and make new water??
It will only be sitting there for a day or two, and I really hate to waste all that salt water.
So please tell me if it can be done. thanks
Lori

You can store it in new water with a heater and powerhead. You should also get new water after you are done with the rocks in it.

If the rock is uncured and you're going to have to cycle the tank anyway, I don't know if I'd worry about making a batch a new water just yet.

Ok, heres what im going to do,
the LR will be here on thurs. I wont be setting my tank up till sunday.
I ordered 22#'s of LR, I have a 5g bucket, clean, never used. Tomorrow, wed, I will mix 3g of salt water, and when the LR gets here I will put it in the bucket, (it is cured LR, but they recomend that you cure it again when you get it after 2 day air via fed ex.
I want to take the stock pump out of my 24g nano and use it in the bucket with the LR until I am ready to set everything up in the tank on sunday.
Will I need to do a water change between thursday and sunday? if so...how much...100%, 25%??
Is this going to work?
Does anyone have any suggestions, anything im missing?
thanks for your time in reading and replying to my post :)

No one has a suggestion...or even an opinion for me....??
Guess I should just call the LFS.....even if I get bad advice, I suppose it beats "no" advice at all....

Change the water in what ? the tank or bucket? Im a little confused lol

Are you setting up your tank from stratch or is there stuff in it already? I would have the live rock in the tub with saltwater and a powerhead until your ready to put it in the tank. I would put in your sand and set up your rock in the tank and then add your water to the tank (not the water from the tubs) . Then wait for your tank to cycle and all that ( i am assuming there is nothing in it?)

I agree... I think the rock will be fine in the bucket for a while. Not sure if your bucket will be big enough for 22 lbs.. Just make sure you have good circulation around all of the rocks and don't put the water from the bucket in your tank!!

Make sure that all the rock is covered in water and not just sticking up out in the air. You may need a bigger tub then the 5 gallons you mentioned. I now when I moved and had to use bins, I used those 25 gallon rubbermaid roughnecks - got it at home depot. I labeled it clearly "saltwater only" so people wouldnt use in the household for other things.
