Yes, you can have ls without lr. Are you thinking of doing a fo tank?

i did for a while, but yes you definitely may, i like the combo, personally, but i had good success with a fish only and no lr, jsut a deep live sand bed(had it for a year, and almost all the fish lived that long, only a few casualties, but they were mostly due to experience deficets, not the tank, but my own lack of knowledge)
