Hey guys, I have this purple LTA and its been doing great since the day I bought it, back in october. Lately, for about a week, its been closing up durring the day like a spotted purple ball with tentacles sticking out. I do a gallon water change and it opens back up. The LTA still eats well in fact it ate a whole silverside yesterday. I only feed it once a week..It did stay open all day monday after I added the carbon. I add carbon once a month for only a week. Its been doing this ever since I added the branching frogspawn to my tank. Does anyone think the branching frogspawn might be the problem? Long before I got the LTA I had a hammer coral in there for three months. The hammer coral never bothered the LTA. Has anyone had an LTA be annoyed by a new LPS?

What is your lighting and your tank size. Type of light and wattage. When you notice the LTA closing up is it when your lights are on or off? IMO I would run carbon constantly especially when having an anemone.

It closes up with the lights on. It is open most of the day and then some time durring the day it gets annoyed by some thing then closes up for a couple of hours. I do a water change and then it opens back up. So you don't think its the frogspawn that is doing this? It acts as if some thing is annoying it. It has been doing this since I added the frogspawn. I have been told that you should only run carbon once a month and only one week a month. I do weekly water changes. All test results are done with salifert test kits.

true, unless you have an anemone...What is your lighting? Type and wattage?

I have kept my LTA for 6 years so far, with many LPS and other types of corals too. I never use carbon. LTAs are some of the strangest acting anemones. Closeing for a while dureing the day means nothing. They do strange things like this from time to time. IMO, if yours is other wise healthy and not climeing out of the sand to move, then dont worry about it.

No worries, it was the frogspawn. I would some times see it spitting stringy stuff out of its mouths some times. As if it was annoyed by my hammer coral that was close by. It was also affecting my anemone, so.. I took the frogspawn out and already I see a difference in my anemone and hammer coral. The frogspawn is now in a different tank and looks happier there.
Hammer coral is still not looking very happy. I am sure after a few water changes, things will go back to normal. I thought someone on this forum said frogspawn and hammer coral are closely related and can be close to each other without fighting. This is so not true with my corals.
