M.H. lamp ????s

I bought a 250 watt double ended M.H. lamp and I would like to know how much space goes between the lamp ant the top of the water ??

8" is usually the typical starting point but raising or lowering it in order to get full coverage and/or good PAR is acceptable. with double ended you have the glass shield so wet bulbs arent much of a concern although you'll get alot of PAR robbing splash on the shield and bang your head on it a few times if you sit it much lower than 8".

any ideas in how to put a hang from celling lamp in a canopy??
