Macro Algae Placement in DSB

This may be a dumb question, but I recently bought some chaetomorpha macro algae for the refugium I built, and was wondering if I should pull it apart and spread it over the DSB, and also if I needed to try to plant it (so to speak) in the DSB, or does it just lay on top. Any opinions/advice is appreciated! Thanks in advance!

i just got some myself, yesterday actually... hehe.. but i just gently pulled it apart a lil... and i emphasize a lil.. it's still in a clump and i just laid it on top of my sand.. it doesn't seem like it needs to be "planted" although placing it in between some rocks may not be a bad idea so that it doesnt' blow around the whole tank.
