what is the best way to grow macro is it best to buy some to get started. if you do not add any how long will it take to grow on its own

its easiest to buy a live frond because it can take years to naturally grow out of a piece of live rock. And if you have any algae eatign animals in your tank, the chance of it growing out is even less likely!
just remember once you get it started it takes off like a damn weed!
