Years ago I worked for IBM and one of my customers was a company called IFF (International Flavors and Fragrances) They were one of the largest companies in the world that no one had ever heard of. They make many, many different food products that we all know and use, like the syrup that is used to make Coca Cola, the cream in Oreos, Snapple Iced tea and many other things. One interesting that I learned there is that a company is allowed to put pretty much whatever they want on the label. If a label for a Snapple Iced Tea says that it contains real lemon juice, all that means is that they can chemically reproduce the exact compounds that are what make lemon juice. So, they have their chemists analyze the lemon juice and work to reproduce it artificially in a lab. As long as they can duplicate the exact compound they can call it real lemon juice.
Also learned that when they make oreo cream, in the second to last stage before it actually becomes the cream filling that we all know and love, it is one of the most highly explosive substances on earth. All of the computers in the building where it was produced were encased in explosion proof housings that had their own dedicated air and electrical sources so that there could be no chance of a spark igniting the powder that makes the cream.
