Mag 9.5 vs rio 3100 vs mag12

I am in the market for a return pump, and would like to get the extra flow of the mag 12. I am currently testing flow right now, and have a 3100. My overlow is taking everything that the 3100 puts in it and more(used waterhose). I was wondering how the 9.5 compares to the 3100. Is it more/less powerfull in real world applications? I am going to get eiter the 9.5 or the 12, but not sure if the 12 is going to be too big. BTW, It will be pumping about 5.5ft. total height.

I have two Mag 7's as well as a Mag 9 and 12. I have never had any problems with either of my Mag 7's being used as return pumps or for Kalk top off. Actually, I have never had a single problem with any of my Magdrives as they have been extremely dependable.

using a mag 7 (pond version, longer cord) as a return pump, no probs yet.. was there a revision maybe ?

The rio came with my BerlinXL, and that is what I will be using it for. Right now the tank is in the garage, I just got the plumbing setup, and now its time to buy the pump. I was more worried about the flow at 5.5ft. and how they compare.

i got a mag 12 return running up to exactly 4.5' and it works great, very quiet. i use a dual overflow chamber i believe at that height im getting about 1100gh give or take a few. i would trust the mag more than the rio jmo.

what size tank and overflows? I have a newly set up 128 gal. with a double overflow and I am running two 9.5's with no problem. I believe I am around 5.5' of head. At 5' the 9.5's run about 700 gph. The mag 12 runs about 1000+ at 5'. I am not sure on the flow ratings on the rio's.

Its a 150 with single overflow and a 1" bulkhead.... Right now, the over flow will take everything the rio 3100 is pumping, and more since I topped it off using the garden hose. the tank is in the garage right now, so I can get the plumbing setup before I take it inside...cs
