IMO you cant go wrong with a mag drive. Ive been running a Mag 5 for 2 years on my 46 gallon without any problems. If by better, you mean which one, then it all depends on what your overflow is rated at?

I have used a number of the mag drive pumps...always 'in sump'..No problems. I had had some failures with other pump manufacturers.
While I have NO personal experience with using them out of the sump I have heard some complain that they leak when used in that application.

I have a 75gal with a Mag 1200 running. Great pump but its way too much pump for my overflow. I have to throttle it down with a ball valve to keep my sump from sounding like a waterfall. (I plan on getting a 950 and keeping the 1200 for a backup)
I would recommend getting a 950. Here's a chart showing the head loss.
Hope that helps.

Mag Drives are my favorite. The Mag 9.5 pump does great with head pressure with no exta noise. I'm using it on my skimmer. Just swith from the Mag 7 and what a difference. I've tried the Rio Hyper flows and Quiteone 4000. ( I should of used the 4000HH) All they did do is make noise with the skimmer. The only one that might be as good is the Eheim 1262. They are a bit pricy though.

I love my Mag 5. It's great. I tried to use it "inline" but the housing seal around the impeller kept leaking during trials, so I just dropped the pump in my sump and closed the outlet. Some of the bigger ones might be better suited to "inline" installation if you want to go that route. I prefer in sump, that way it doesn't matter too much if it leaks.

Mag Drive is a brand manufactured by Danner. I doubt you'll ever find the Danner name in a catalog or online retailer site. They're just called Mag Drives.
When we say a 9.5 (950) or 12 (1200) pump, we're referring to the Danner ones.
