Mag Pump

Monday I will be trading my Mag 9.5 for a Mag 5.
Right now I have a threaded piece (Cant remember the name) connected to the out fitting of the return pump. When I hook up the new pump, do I need to get a smaller fitting? If so, what size? How can I hook it up to a flexible tube that is 1/2'' in diameter? Id like to figure all this out before getting the pump so I can be ready.
Also, do you think this will be enough flow for a 40g breeder w/ a 20g long sump? The Mag 9.5 is too much but will the Mag 5 be too little?

Why do you think the 9.5 is to much for your system? You can put a shutoff valve on there and throttle it back if it is too much flow. As for your fitting you have to find out the size of the two pumps discharge sides, but I would think the Mag 5 would be smaller so if you go with that you will need a female coupling x 1/2" barbed fitting on the other end to connect you hose. You can find them in the home improvement stores.

My overflow cannot keep up with the pump. I did put a ball valve on and it is barely pushing water out. I have to keep my sump at a slow water speed so all the microbubbles will pop. I also think that because I have throttled it back so much, the pump is going to overheat because it can only push out a small amount of water.
Is there any way you can link me pics of the pieces you are talking about? The Mag 5 has a 1/2'' inlet and outlet.

After I get the pump, I'll just have to run to HD or Lowes and see what I can find. Thank you for your help though.
