Will a Magnetek Ballast that gives the following information 'MDL# 827-SLH-TC-P Slim Line Lamp Ballast for two F96 or F72 T12slimline lamps High Power Factor Lamp current425 MA ' light up a VHO lamp?
How do I tell what kind of ballast will light VHO.
I'm trying to find an economicle 'electronic' substituet ballast to IceCap and Corralife.
Thanks for any help & or suggestions!

you need to have a VHO ballast
the ballast you mention above will not run VHO bulbs
The ballast need 1500mA to fire VHO bulbs
I have Advance Transformer Magnetic VHO ballast for $55 that fire 2 VHO bulbs on my reef
but I prefer electronic ballast
Advance Transformer do not make electronic ballast for VHO
Others have said GE make electronic ballast for VHO but I have hard time finding it.
Good luck

Try Hellolights.com you can get an electronic ballast for $110. It can handle 440 watts, same as the Icecap 660.

You have to have a vho ballast to run vho bulbs! i have a magnetek vho ballast that i picked up for 35 dollars. it runs two bulbs, from two feet to six feet, with a twelve foot max.

Read here 1500Ma is NOT needed to run VHO's.
<a href="http://www.hamiltontechnology.com/" target="_blank">http://www.hamiltontechnology.com/</a>
they have ballasts that are 800MA to run 2 48" VHO's
Interesting that it is said that you need 1500MA to 'fire' vho's??? nay nay
