Magnum 350

I just bought a Magnum 350 with a diatom filter to use as a polisher for my water. Is it ok to leave it on all the time?

I dont think that in saltwater that you can use a diatom filter because it is so good at filtering the aquarium water it might take out the trace elements that are contained in marine mixes.

I was told that you should use the carbon filter and sleeve alternatly with the polisher filter. What I personally have done is use the carbon for about 1 week then two weeks with the polisher then I do a h20 change and start all over again. Anyone have a comment on this?

Is there a reason that you want to leave it on all of the time? In my experience the filters clogg up and work less efficiently after a couple of days to a couple of weeks. I have never used diatomite powder but I have used activated carbon. I also put phosguard in it when I first started my tank because my phosphates were high.
